Its all about Love!!

A friend of mine commented on the V-day which got me thinking on this issue! Is Valentine's day a ruse of spending money to bribe our loved one so that we can get out of ignoring him/her for the rest of the year?? Or is it just an innocent day reserved for the purporse of remembering St. Valentine and his valor?? (Again there is little evidence of this happening)

I partly agree on the V-day issue being a major money making scheme of the leading "card-makers"!! It seems as though Halmark and its "peers" have concoted this something which can almost be counted as a festival! I even agree about not reserving a single day for celebrating love but instead..... trying to cherish it for most part of the year seems more ideal!
However in today's fast paced life it seems easy to take your spouse/loved one for granted and so reserving a special day to revive their love seems to be a practical idea!

On a separate issue honouring the martyr Valentine who (some archeologists say so) married couples during wartime when marriages were prohibited, seems like a sweet thing to do when coupled with the need of having a special day reserved for expressing love! The popularity of Valentine's day (reports also say its the 2nd in line for drawing in biggest revenue from selling cards; first is christmas)is solely due to brilliant strategy of capitalizing on human nature of wanting to express his/her feelings; love or for most aplogizing for the lack of it!!!

Whatever it is, I strongly believe that is upto a person whether or not he wants to be a part of this day. And HATE the fact that certain groups of people are forcing people not to... under the pretense of "culture"... democracy is what has kept India alive and strangling it by creating such incidents is unacceptable! The "pink-chaddi" event that people undertook as an opposition to such groups was hilarious! :P :D

PS: I spent it cooking for a bunch of friends and dragging their asses to a movie by blackmailing them! Afterall I had just cooked for all!! :D :P And for the record I loved Billu Barber... as slow and lame as it may have seemed for the rest of the gang!

Pottermania!

I have once again fallen victim to pottermania! This frenzy is usually heightened at the release of a new harry potter movie or her book. Sadly the genious that she is, Rowling has ensured that she nor anyone else has anything to continue on with the death of her main villan!
Having too much time on hand... made me re-read some of the old books I have. I just finished reading Potter-7 for the second time.....and what a entertaining piece of work it is!

So simply and tactfully written. It makes its reader rejoice at the wedding and almost feel the thrill as the trio escape the wedding venue, share the excitement the duo feel as they visit Godric's hollow and almost make the reader cry as they begin to emphathize with the truth of the shady Snape and the revered Dumblebore which is finally revealed at the end of this gripping story.

The Potter series is not only for adolescents and young adults. It caters to a wider audience who posses a broad mind and bountifuls of imaginations. I dont think Rowling has ever gone a too little far with her "magical world"...as even her magical world has laws similar to the laws that govern our world as we know it! In fact very cunningly she has tied all lose ends together in her last book. It actually seems too perfect to think that she had envisioned the ending of her series from the beginging. I bet, she reread all her books, and made sense of the lose ends she left and then wrote the last book making it seem as though she had planned the series to end so from the very begining. I say this not because I want to undermine her work; infact I think she is a fabulous writer and I am an ardent admirer. But.... cause thats the way a writer's mind works I think... it just comes to you, you cannot plan everything tiny minuscle detail from the begining. Things fall into place slowly!

All in all... I am now eagerly awaiting the release of the
movie which would be the 6th in the series.

Happy Birthday TTU!

February 11th marks the formulation of TTU University! Today Tech turned 86..... And her popularity is increasing with each passing day! On this day 86 years ago, Governor Neff signed the bill that gave birth to TTU. In August of 1923, the same old flat, arid, lonely Lubbock was chosen as the official site for TTU! It took 2 years for them to erect the campus (which was considerably smaller then) and enroll students. Today Tech boasts to harbor one of the biggest campuses in the US and certainly is an architectural wonder. It has 15 branches distributed over Texas and in other countries too (Dallas, Amarillo and Seville, Spain)!

The TTU site rightly says that everything done on West Texas Plains is on a large scale complementing the large country in which this college is located. Infact if you do visit Lubbock, you will realize that its populated majorly by people related to Texas Tech in some or the other way!

Happy Birthday Tech.... May you grow with each passing year!

Plan B

Ok... this is not about the pill! As I love putting illustrations along with my posts, I Googled Plan B for some ideas (for illustrations)! Lo behold the first link said “For a Progesterone only emergency contraceptive”! Woo!

Good info... but that’s not what I want to lament about today.....Moving on! I have finally realized the way of winning the game of life... which is full of hurdles created by none other than our almighty! He has this pattern... of not giving something to us... something that we want... right away!..... and then suddenly when you are not watching the pot to boil over.... surprise! And the only way to keep up your optimism and good spirits (to say nothing about sanity) till the world is all right again... is to come up with plan B.! {By the way... whoever came up with that name for the “pill” is an advertizing genius.... very simple... and very true!

So... when facing the multi-headed monster (problems in life)... who metamorphosizes any chance he can....all you got to do is hang in there with your chin up!

Sigh.... 3 posts in one night... is testimony to the fact that I am now tired of hanging and now that damn pot better boil!!!!

With that thought I bid adieu!

New Look!

The very ambitious me... has finally figured out how to add gadgets to my blog without knowing a head or tail about HTML! I googled... harrassed fellow computer literates, nagged cousins... and but all that was in vain!

You tube was my knight in shinning armor who rescued me from the darkness of ignorance! A very simple video showed me step by step... how to add gadgets to my blog! And so the very enthusiast me added all the ones I fancied.... as many as I could! Yippey! I further played around with other tabs I discovered while editing the gadgets and made my slightly dull page much more vibrant and colorful!

So with this charming new look.... please let me know how you like my "make over"!

Also for those of you.. we have just met, I am fascinated by the moon and so when you do visit my blog you will be able to appreciate its beauty!.... and in my opinion its best seen in two forms.... the magnificent full moon and the stylish crescent!

PS: I finally fixed that irritating way my compose section kept adding hindi translations... so if anyone needs help... buzz me! :) :)

And herez my saviour! Have fun updating yours!

Go Green People!

Okay... I agree that this financial predicament that has held the nation at the jugular is mighty intimidating.... but there are other important things too..... Sadly which we have forgotten.... yet again! I am talking about our environment!

Yes... Mother nature। Why.... oh why do we always wait till the last minute.... until some tragedy strikes to awaken us from our stupor? It was the same with this current situation.... I am no expert in finance... but I believe (from what I have read or heard)...that the very concept of “credit” and “war” is why we are here in the first place! And it took multiple corporations declaring bankruptcy to get us to our senses!

Coming back to my issue, just before all this mess started, environmental awareness was finally gaining the focus it deserved. People were unnerved to hear about the hole in the ozone blanket and the concerns about climate change! But now with the economic crisis causing a hole in most people’s pockets, we seemed to have refocused our attention on other immediate concerns!

Simple steps is all it takes to care about our environment. Some pointers:

Recycle anything you can - cans, paper

Use colored newspaper as a substitute for wrapping ones

Turn off the tap when not needed... same goes for lights and your car!

I try and do my bit by using cloth bags instead of using the plastic bags at Kroger... unfortunately, I realized this too late and have a huge pile of plastic bags cluttering my closet, ready to choke the environment when it finally goes to the landfill! Why doesn’t everyone use stop using the plastic bags?? And why haven’t the plastic ones been banned already? They were banned in Mumbai when I left 3 years ago...! That didn’t stop people from using them, but it reduced the percentage of people using it atleast! I sincerely hope to God that more and more come to their senses and do their bit for the environment, and not wait for another major crises to wake them up!

Add your idea in the comments list!

So everyone.... fall in love with NATURE this valentine’s day and do your bit.... even its just car pooling or tree planting or switching to cloth/paper bags। This is your earth too.... help me take care of it! :)
